Mission

We help entrepreneurial Democrats run for office and win.

Our Mission

Tomorrow’s Jobs is a hybrid political action committee (PAC) that backs Democrats with professional entrepreneurial backgrounds who run for office at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels of government.

The organization recruits, trains, and supports Democratic candidates who have experience creating jobs in communities. We’re talking about people who have organized, managed, and assumed the risks of a business or enterprise.

Objective

Tomorrow’s Jobs is the only organization solely focused on recruiting, training, and financially supporting Democrats running for office with an entrepreneurial background.

Candidates with professional entrepreneurial backgrounds connect with independent and persuadable voters uniquely due to their focused experience creating jobs, building a business, and investing in communities.

These candidates know what it takes to successfully navigate a complex regulatory environment, can think outside the box, know what it takes to get things done, and make for more moderate candidacies.

Unfortunately, Democrats with entrepreneurial backgrounds often fall short because they typically do not possess personal wealth or lack the built-in fundraising network that some other candidates do. In fact, the average small business owner makes about $66,000 annually and only 40 percent are profitable.

And, since candidates with entrepreneurial backgrounds are likely to skew moderate, the cost of running creates a steeper hill to climb than those who are more ideologically extreme.

Because research is clear: when the cost of running for office increases, the candidates contesting are more likely to be ideologically extreme due to their net policy payoffs from running being higher than those of moderate candidates.

Here’s the bottom line: High-quality, moderate entrepreneurs are unlikely to run for office unless they have the proper infrastructure, resources, strategic counsel, and support necessary.

That’s where Tomorrow’s Jobs pack has a role to play.

The organization’s activities include:

  • Recruiting and training candidates at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels;

  • Delivering logistical support and strategic guidance to put candidates in competitive positions;

  • Providing access to donors for financial aid;

  • Making direct contributions to candidates; and

  • Supporting candidates through independent expenditure activity.

purpose

For the 2023-24 election cycle, the goals for Tomorrow’s Jobs goals are as follows:

  1. Win back the House Majority.

  2. Recruit and train entrepreneurial Democrats to run at the state, county, and local levels. Our priority states for this activity will be those with at least one competitive House race.

  3. Combat the anti-entrepreneur and anti-small business sentiment that Republicans have tried to slap Democrats with nationwide.

game plan

The following are principles we’ll use to guide the activities of Tomorrow’s Jobs for 2023-24:

  • Focus on competitive House districts. Our efforts will be focused on 70 competitive House districts, including Republican-held seats in districts carried by Biden in 2020.

  • Position electable Democrats to win races, above all else. General Election voters don’t want extremist candidates. Therefore, the organization will prioritize supporting electable Democrats — with a focus on Primary Election activity — who are strong, pragmatic, and electable.

  • Candidate quality and electability matter. The organization will not rush to provide financial support to candidates if the race is unwinnable or if the activity doesn’t help Democrats achieve a particular goal.
